HOMA1 and HOMA2 are different models.
Choose the model before comparing the numbers.
| Feature | HOMA1 approximation | HOMA2 |
|---|---|---|
| Calculation | Published algebraic equations | Iterative computer model |
| On EndoCalc | Calculated in your browser | Official external software |
| Inputs | Paired fasting glucose and insulin | Assay-specific insulin or C-peptide with glucose, as documented |
| Comparison | Do not exchange scores or reference thresholds across models. | |
Why this distinction matters
The same sample can produce different scores under different models. Record the model name, units and assay whenever you report a result.
Using the official HOMA2 tool
Obtain the software through Oxford’s licensing information, check the accepted input ranges, and use its own documentation. EndoCalc does not implement or validate an independent HOMA2 engine.

C-peptide is not an insulin substitute
Convert C-peptide units when needed, but do not put the converted number into an insulin field.
