THE METHOD

Formula & units

QUICKI = 1 ÷ [log₁₀(insulin in µIU/mL) + log₁₀(glucose in mg/dL)]

The calculator converts glucose and insulin to the units required by the equation before applying base-10 logarithms.

Worked example

Glucose 90 mg/dL and insulin 10 µIU/mL give QUICKI 0.3385.

READ BEFORE INTERPRETING

What the result can tell you

Higher QUICKI generally corresponds to greater insulin sensitivity. A value is not a diagnosis, and research thresholds depend on the population and assay.

Questions about QUICKI

Which logarithm does QUICKI use?

QUICKI uses base-10 logarithms of insulin in µIU/mL and glucose in mg/dL. Entering glucose in mmol/L directly into the formula gives a different result.

Is a higher QUICKI value better?

Higher QUICKI generally indicates greater insulin sensitivity. It is a research surrogate; clinical interpretation depends on the context and population.
